GNARLY rim protectors are super lightweight. The lighter your wheel is the faster it accelerates and quicker it responds to changes in direction, important for getting up hills, avoiding trees and staying on the trail! How light are they?
These weights are based on fitting them to my 29” wheels. If you are running 27.5 or smaller they will be even lighter!
We all know that lowering tyre pressure improves traction but you reach a critical point where going lower creates unwanted tyre squirm. Gnarly protectors help to stabilize and support the side walls of your tyre at lower pressures, reducing the dreaded squirm.
During testing, we found the insert would occasionally rest against the hole (air port) in the top of the valve making inflating and deflating the tyre a little tricky.
We also found some of the latest “race” sealants and additives can clog up smaller air ports so we turned on our trusty MAC and designed a supercharged High Flow valve just for you!
The Gnarly High Flow tubeless valves supplied with your inserts work better than your current valves so go to the extra mile and swap them over when you are doing the install. They’ll also help make your wheels look more Gnarly!

Gnarly Inserts are manufactured from a specially formulated and engineered closed cell EPE foam system. The better part of two years R&D and real world testing went into the design; some things just can’t be rushed.
Our high density EPE inserts are both incredibly durable and extremely light weight, they absorb impacts effortlessly and are impervious to sealant. Gnarly.
Just like your bikes suspension, Gnarly inserts absorb trail vibration and impacts, which gives you more control and reduces fatigue. The mechanics are completely different but the result is the same. The EPE system has progressive dampening, which means the harder the impact (the more the insert is compressed), the more they absorb.
Gnarly inserts also reduce tyre squirm. They do this by creating friction at the contact interface (the point where the tyre touches the ground) countering lateral forces. The benefit of this system is two fold, it improves grip when cornering hard and riding off camber and helps prolong the life of your tyres.

Yes, Gnarly Rim Protectors are compatible with any tubeless mountain bike tyre setup. They come in three sizes depending on the size of your tyres and they will fit any mountain bike wheel diameter. You can even fit them to junior sizes like 20 and 24 and old school 26 inch wheels
